A visual somatic toolkit for children to notice, move, express, receive, and reconnect with themselves.
I created "Child recalibration poster" because I was interested in my daughter having something she can actually see, understand, and use in the moment, even before she can fully explain what she's feeling.
Children experience so much through their bodies. Sometimes they need to move. Sometimes they need to shake, stomp, breathe, cry, laugh, be quiet, get outside, receive a hug, have some space, or simply be with someone they trust.
Instead of telling a child to calm down, I was interested in creating a different invitation:
They now can ask "What am I experiencing?"
From there, children can explore different ways of caring for themselves.
MOVE explore animal movements, stretching, jumping, balancing and moving their bodies
RELEASE shake, stomp, roar, dance and let big energy move through
BREATHE slow down and explore simple breathing practices
NOTICE look, listen and notice what's happening inside the body
FEEL recognize that all authentic feelings and emotions are welcome
RECEIVE practice allowing support, kindness, connection and care
EXPRESS draw, sing, create, talk, move and find their own way to express themselves
REST / SPACE choose quiet, coziness, nature, solitude, togetherness or stillness
--For families
Use the poster in a bedroom, playroom, homeschool space, or a dedicated, recalibration corner
I also created this to help when even I feel off balanced and unsure of what to do to help my child, these tools spark my creative juices and helps me show up better as a parent
--For schools & educators
REcalibration can become a simple visual resource for classrooms, school counselors, special learning environments, movement spaces, homeschool groups, and nature-based education.
It can be used before or after transitions, during emotional moments, after active play, as part of morning check-ins, or simply as an everyday invitation to develop, body awareness and emotional vocabulary
It isn't designed to tell children how they *should* feel.
It's designed to give them more ways to notice what they're experiencing and more choices for what they can do next.
--For homeschool & worldschool families
Learning doesn't only happen at a desk.
Children can learn through movement, nature, imagination, sensation, play and connection.
This recalibration poster gives families a visual tool they can bring into everyday life, whether you're at home, outdoors, traveling, learning together, or creating your own rhythm.
My intention
I believe children deserve to know:
My feelings matter
My body is worth listening to
I can express myself
I can receive support
I can take space
I can rest
I can move
I can choose
This is more than a poster to me.
It's an invitation for children to build a relationship with themselves, one small choice at a time
